Fantasmagorie

I've managed to locate one of the oldest cartoons out there for you animation people. What we have here is Émile Cohl's "Fantasmagorie". The cartoon was made in 1908. Which would make 100 years old this year. Anyway, the film was primarily stick figures that interacted with the characters around them. No backgrounds...in fact...i think this film predates backgrounds. It was all shot on negative film, which was an early special effect. Because by shooting it on negative film, they made the cartoon like a chalkboard drawing.

We've come a long way in 100 years. I think it's great that this film still exists today so we could see it and sort of compare to animation today. This French animator pioneered animation and is still admired a century later.

Hugh Harman's~A Rain Day with the Bear Family~

This is an old MGM cartoon from 1940(see, they no longer have the animated lion at the beginnings...it's a real lion now). And i searched all over the internet and finally found this video that a YouTube user posted(thanks to tiesdd). And i want to know more about it myself. The cartoon is called 'A rainy day with the bear family'. I do have some comments on the video. The animators must have worked to death making this cartoon, because they paid attention to every little detail they could. Like on the bear family, every little hair is draw out on the bears, which is much like what Harman-Ising did for the first Tom & Jerry cartoon(Puss Gets the Boot). And notice the scene where the father bear is swimming through the torrent of shingles...it's pretty amazing. I mean you can actually see individually drawn shingles falling off the background in a wave sequence. Please watch this and tell me more about this cartoon or just plain throw out your comments.
